Meet the guy behind 'Danny Rockett'

Brent Kawchuk, Executive Producer

Brent Kawchuk is the creative force behind Danny Rockett Productions, bringing decades of experience producing award-winning television, documentaries, commercials, branded content and live productions across Canada and beyond.

Let's talk.

Hello.

Brent's story

A storyteller at heart, Brent holds degrees in both Education and Journalism, combining a teacher’s curiosity with a journalist’s instinct for compelling human stories. Before entering the world of television production, he spent four years teaching in Calgary, an experience that still shapes his approach to collaboration, leadership and creative development today.

Outside the production world, Brent is an accomplished musician whose band, the Dino Martinis, has travelled internationally, creating opportunities to connect with artists, performers and cultural figures from around the world. Whether behind the camera, on stage or mentoring emerging filmmakers, Brent brings the same energy to every project: tell meaningful stories, create memorable experiences and make work that connects with people.

DOCUMENTARIES & FILM

Brent has produced and directed acclaimed documentary and film projects for Canadian and international audiences. His documentary credits include X-Change and Balletlujah!, featuring k.d. lang, which earned a Canadian Screen Award.

His documentary God Only Knows: Same-Sex Marriage received both an AMPIA Award for Best Documentary and a prestigious Rocky Award at the Banff International Television Festival.

Brent’s film credits also include Come True, Range Roads and In the Tall Grass, based on the novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill.

BROADCAST & LIVE PRODUCTIONS

Brent’s broadcast work spans major Canadian networks, live productions and nationally recognized television events. He has created programming for broadcasters including CBC, Global, YTV, CMT and HBO.

His current production, History in 60, is available on AMI and AMI+, bringing Canadian history to audiences through short-form storytelling designed to educate and engage.

In live television and music production, Brent has produced the Canadian Country Music Awards and East Coast Music Awards, along with music specials featuring some of North America’s top performers.

COMMERCIAL & BRANDED CONTENT

Alongside broadcast and documentary work, Brent has created hundreds of commercials, branded films and digital productions for major national clients. His commercial portfolio includes work for Tim Hortons, Subway, McDonald's, Ford, Chevrolet, Sport Chek, SGI and ATB Financial.

Brent is also the country’s most prolific producer of Historica Canada's Heritage Minutes, having produced eight to date, the current national record.

OUTREACH & MENTORSHIP

Beyond production, Brent remains deeply involved in supporting Alberta’s film and television community. He served for eight years on the board of directors for Alberta Media Production Industries Association, including two years as board chair.

He also works with emerging creatives through teaching, mentorship and guest instruction with Mount Royal University and Bow Valley College, helping students develop practical skills and industry knowledge for careers in film, television and media production.
